My positions on local issues:
- Garden City Lands: a city-led project proposal should be timely delivered to provide public open space with Agricultural Land Reserve appropriate uses
- city spending: fiscally prudent to lead us into a steady state economy
- transportation priorities: public transit over freeways
- Canada Line: connect to new bike lanes and work to return the street-level interurban tram to connect Steveston, Hamilton and other regional centres
- BC Hydro and the Smart Meters: there must be a choice for homeowners
- Vancouver Airport Expansion and Jet Fuel Pipeline: in opposition to the VAFF proposal and critical of the YVR expansion plans
- wastewater and sewage treatment: work towards tertiary treatment at all of the plants in the Fraser River estuary
- affordable housing: require that a range of affordable housing units are completed – ahead of all other residential developments
- fair and livable wages: to guarantee a high standard of living for everyone in our community
- heritage buildings: collaborate with community stakeholders for the best provision of service to be provided from these public facilities and actively promote the retention of our remaining historic features
- Oval: open more of this space for public use and prevent privitization of the services within
- green infrastructure: with adequate incentives that also encourages a “Made in Canada” purchasing policy and a ban on bottled water at city functions to lead the promotion of tap water and waste reduction
I share policies positions and strategies that are global in efforts to take on the economic crisis and at the same time lay the foundations for a sustainable and fair society.
These six fundamental principles are as expressed in the Charter of the Global Greens:
Ecological Wisdom
We acknowledge that human beings are part of the natural world and we respect the specific values of all forms of life, including non-human species.
Non-Violence
We declare our commitment to non-violence and strive for a culture of peace and cooperation between states.
Social Justice
We assert that the key to social justice is the equitable distribution of resources to ensure that all have full opportunities for personal and social development.
Sustainability
We recognize the scope for the material expansion of society within the biosphere, and the need to maintain biodiversity through the use of renewable resources.
Participatory Democracy
We strive for a democracy in which all citizens have the right to express their views, and are able to directly participate in decisions which affect their lives.
Respect for Diversity
We honour and value equally the Earth’s biological and ecological diversity together with the context of individual responsibility toward all beings.
